Sedgefield District RUFC is a progressive rugby club, with an ever-expanding squad of 60 players. Our aim at Sedgefield is to create an enjoyable sporting experience for all.
Sedgefield Rugby Football Club was reformed in 2007 after over 10 year’s absence in the village. Since then the club has gone from strength to strength after two successful seasons in the Teesside Social League and reaching the semi-finals of the Durham Plate Competition both years.
Due to our success both on and off the pitch our senior team (for players aged 17 and above) now joined the National Leagues where we play competitive league fixtures every Saturday through September to April. We gained promotion to Durham and Northumberland Division Two and remain competitive at level 8 of the rugby pyramid.
Sedgefield were in the fortunate position of having former Durham University coach Ted Wood as head coach during our early years. Ted Wood spent over 35 years with Durham University, during which time, Ted nurtured players including Will Carling, Will Greenwood and Phil de Glanville.
Currently our Head coach is Dave Addison who works alongside Chris Webb and Paul Wilkinson.
Last season we got some recognition on the County stage with both James Watson and Will Johnson gaining full county honours, the first Sedgie players to play at that level.
Always on the look out for new players, we encourage new players to join us at training on Thursday evening from 7pm prompt.
The rugby club has a good relationship with Sedgefield Cricket Club, where we play all our home matches and have full use of the facilities.
